Forest Canyon: This canyon is a long (about 10 miles) and steep (almost 2,000 feet deep) conifer forested canyon between Trail Ridge and Stones Peak created by the Big Thompson River with help from glaciers. There are no paths into the forest, and it is said that the undergrowth is so heavy that even the Ute Indians refused to enter this canyon.
At one time it was known as Willow Canyon. Abner Sprague named the canyon, but again, it doesn't take much imagination to guess the name of this canyon once you gaze down on it from Trail Ridge Road.#
